On the square of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity at Ogrodowa Street in Łódź, between Manufaktura and the Izrael Poznański Palace, a 3.5-metre WOŚP Heart has stood since July 2022. The polished steel sculpture works like a giant mirror — passers-by take photos not beside the heart, but „inside” it.
The unveiling was performed by Jerzy Owsiak together with the WOŚP crew, and the sculpture reached Łódź by sea from the Chinese city of Tianjin — it covered 12,000 nautical miles before standing next to the Museum of the City of Łódź. It was made by the Sino Sculpture Group collective, which carries out projects in New York and Los Angeles, among others. It is the second large-format free-standing sculpture made of seamless stainless steel in Poland — hence the perfectly smooth, mirror-like reflection of the palace and the sky.
It quickly became the Orchestra's iconic heart: on the day of each Grand Finale, crowds of donors gather here. Łódź is important to WOŚP anyway — the city also hosts the WOŚP mural on Dormitory No. 7 of the University of Łódź and the ONCOLAB laboratory bearing the Orchestra's name. You can see the sculpture at any time — the square is available around the clock, all year round, and the visit is easy to combine with Manufaktura and the Museum of the City of Łódź. Admission is free.
