Coast
Mrzeżyno, West Pomeranian
Mrzeżyno Beach (say "mzheh-ZHIH-no") is a wide strip of fine sand on both sides of the Rega River mouth, about 18 km (11 miles) west of Kołobrzeg on Poland's Baltic coast. Instead of hotels lining the shore, a belt of pine forest grows on the dunes behind it. It is a calm, family-friendly alternative to busier resorts, and a wonderful place for long walks and storm watching outside summer.
Mrzeżyno belongs to the municipality of Trzebiatów in West Pomerania. The nearest airport is Szczecin-Goleniów, about 80 km away. There is no rail station: take the train to Kołobrzeg or Trzebiatów and continue by local bus. By car, follow road 109 from Trzebiatów (about 10 km) or the county road from Kołobrzeg. From June to August parking on the main street and side lanes is paid, in Polish złoty (PLN). The beach itself is free.
The river and the harbor breakwaters split the shore into two sections.
Further west lies a military area, so stay on marked paths.
The village markets itself as a quiet family resort: there is no big promenade or nightlife, just sand along the whole shore. With children, the supervised east bathing area is the obvious choice. Avoid swimming near the harbor channel, where the river current and breakwaters can create strong currents.
The coast here is part of a Natura 2000 site. A 100 to 150 m wide belt of pine forest separates the beach from the village, and a small nature reserve protects a crowberry pine forest west of the river. Erosion is visible on the east side, where the sea has almost washed away the front dune, so use the official beach entrances and keep off the slopes.
Lifeguards are on duty only during the summer bathing season, usually from late June to the end of August; the municipality sets exact dates each year. In July and August you will find snack bars, rentals and a small fairground. From autumn to spring the beach is wild and almost empty, ideal for walking and watching storms, but most seasonal services are closed and there are no lifeguards. For a rainy day, a hotel water park in the village is open year-round to outside visitors. Information is mostly in Polish (as of October 2026).
The harbor with its breakwaters and fishing boats is right next to the beach. Cyclists can follow the R10 Baltic coast cycle route along the coast to Dźwirzyno and Kołobrzeg, and kayakers paddle down the Rega from Trzebiatów to the sea. The lagoon-like Lake Resko Przymorskie lies just east of the village.
