Dźwirzyno Beach

Dźwirzyno Beach (jvee-ZHI-no) is a wide, sandy stretch of Baltic shoreline about 10 km (6 miles) west of Kołobrzeg in northwest Poland, backed by dunes and pine forest. The village sits on a narrow strip of land between the sea and Lake Resko Przymorskie, so you can combine a beach day with a lakeside stroll and the little fishing harbor. It's a calmer, family-friendly alternative to Kołobrzeg's busy town beaches – lively in summer, peaceful and perfect for long walks the rest of the year.

The beach and dunes

Behind the beach runs a belt of coastal dunes up to 0.5 km wide and 15.2 m (50 ft) high, topped with small pines. Numbered paths lead down to the sand, with viewpoints at entrances 138 and 140. East of the village begins the Dunes between Dźwirzyno and Grzybowo nature reserve, where the dunes are fenced off and you must stay on marked paths.

In summer there is a lifeguarded swimming area; in 2013 it covered 730 m of shore with four guarded sections. Lifeguards usually work from late June to the end of August – check the official Polish bathing-site service for the current season.

A little history

Until 1945 the village was called Kolberger Deep and belonged to Germany. In the Middle Ages the outflow of the lake served as the seaport of the town of Treptow (today Trzebiatów); archaeologists found traces of a lighthouse and harbor from the 15th–16th centuries here in 1983. The place was already a small seaside resort before World War II. After the war the area became Polish, the German inhabitants were expelled, and the name Dźwirzyno was officially introduced in 1947.

Things to do in Dźwirzyno

• Dune boardwalk: built in 2018 for the Velo Baltica bike route, with a viewing platform.
• Fishing harbor on the channel between the lake and the sea.
• Lake Resko Przymorskie: fishing, kayaking and a sailing marina.
• Cycling: the coastal Velo Baltica route (EuroVelo 10) to Kołobrzeg and Mrzeżyno.
• Rainy day:, the indoor pool, sauna area and bowling alley at the Senator hotel are open to non-guests; the municipal sports center has mini golf and a playground.

Practical tips (as of October 2026)

• Admission: free, year-round.
• Off-season: from October to May there are no lifeguards, and most snack bars, rentals and seasonal rides are closed. Winter storms erode the beach paths and dune foot – keep off the slopes.
• Accommodation: from campsites to 4- and 5-star hotels.
• Money: Polish złoty (PLN).

How to get there and is it worth visiting

Drive about 10 km from Kołobrzeg via Grzybowo; in summer the main street gets congested, so arrive early. Buses and minibuses run from Kołobrzeg, the nearest rail stop is Stary Borek and the main station is Kołobrzeg (note: the Białogard–Kołobrzeg line is closed until December 12, 2026, with replacement buses). The nearest airport is Szczecin-Goleniów. If you want a broad, natural beach without big-town crowds, Dźwirzyno is well worth it.
