Kołobrzeg, West Pomeranian
Kołobrzeg Harbor (roughly "ko-WOB-zheg") is the lively heart of this Baltic spa town: at the mouth of the Parsęta River, fishing boats, excursion ships and yachts share the quays, while a lighthouse on an 18th-century fort watches over the entrance. For visitors it is several sights in one – a breakwater with the best sea views in town, boat trips on the Baltic and to the Danish island of Bornholm, fish shops supplied straight from the boats and a marina with a historic redoubt.
Kołobrzeg lies on Poland's West Pomeranian coast, about 230 km northeast of Berlin and around 100 km from Szczecin-Goleniów Airport. The harbor is a short walk from the spa district and about 2 km from the train station.
Kołobrzeg (German: Kolberg) grew rich on salt and sea trade and was a member of the Hanseatic League. Its harbor was guarded for centuries by fortifications: Fort Ujście (now topped by the lighthouse), the Morast Redoubt and the Salt Redoubt now form the Three Forts Trail, an easy walk of about an hour. The Maritime Open-Air Museum sits next to the Salt Redoubt.
In summer, excursion boats – some styled as old sailing ships – leave from the Passenger Port, and there are crossings to Bornholm. The small water tram (12 seats) runs only in the summer season, looping from the marina up the Parsęta and to the fishing port in about an hour. For winter 2026/27 we could not confirm any cruise timetable, so check directly with the operators on the quay before you go.
Yes – it is one of the top things to do in Kołobrzeg, especially in the late afternoon, when the breakwater catches the sunset. Combine it with fresh fish from the shops at the fishing port and a look at the forts along the river mouth.
Walk from the center or along the river. There is public parking at the fishing port; the spa district has paid parking zones. Nearby: the lighthouse, the Poland's Wedding to the Sea Monument, the beach and the old town with its brick basilica.
