Amusement parks
Borówiec, Greater Poland
In the wooded village of Borówiec near Kórnik, inside a hall at ul. Uroczysko 1, a dozen trains run at the same time across more than 450 m² of H0-scale (1:87) layout. The operator bills it as the largest model railway in Poland, and it is still growing. The one catch: it only runs on scheduled show days.
The layout shows European railways set in present-day European landscapes. At the moment 12 trains are in constant motion, passing each other according to an ever-changing timetable; the goal is more than 40. The longest train is 6 m long. The rolling stock comes from Roco, Fleischmann, Trix, Liliput, Brawa and Piko, and the steam locomotives are fitted with smoke and sound generators.
Trains and buildings come from several eras, but Epoch V – railways of the late 20th and early 21st century – dominates. Cars with working lights drive through the streets of the miniature towns on their own. Some of the bridges, tunnel portals and buildings were made by the builders themselves, so you will not see them on any other layout.
Next to the railway a modern airport is taking shape on about 50 m². Around 800 LEDs are built into the apron to imitate runway lighting, and work is under way on ground vehicles that will service the aircraft using the Faller Car System. The aircraft on the stands are due to change from time to time, showing planes of different airlines.
A further 150 m² or so is being built with a Polish landscape. Automatic lighting control that turns day into night is also planned. The layout already includes a large amusement park with moving rides and coloured lights.
The layout opens on scheduled show days, usually at weekends from 11:00 to 18:00. The operator's calendar lists shows on 17, 18, 24, 25 and 31 October and on 1, 7, 8, 14 and 15 November 2026, among others. Ticket sales end one hour before closing.
Organised groups are welcome Monday to Friday, 9:00–17:00, by prior booking (PLN 28 per pupil, PLN 32 per person for other groups, carers included). The layout can also be started on request on a non-show day, with a minimum total charge of PLN 400.
Borówiec lies in the Kórnik municipality, about 5 km north-west of Kórnik. By public transport, take ZTM Kombus buses from Franowo in Poznań: line 512 (Saturdays, Sundays and holidays) or 511 (weekdays) to the Borówiec/Rekreacyjna stop, then walk along ul. Polna to ul. Uroczysko. Kórnik Castle and its arboretum make a good next stop.
