St Anne Church in Przechlewo

St Anne’s Church in Przechlewo is a monument where timber and masonry architecture form an unusual whole. The present church followed fires that destroyed earlier buildings and was extended at the turn of the 20th century.

From fires to the 1720 church

The exact construction date is uncertain, but municipal sources describe the church rebuilt in 1720 as partly timber and partly brick. An earlier church burned in 1688, followed by another fire in 1714. In 1898–1901 a masonry transept and presbytery were added to the older part, giving the complex a Latin-cross plan.

Half-timbering, polychromy and Rococo altars

The oldest section is distinguished by half-timbering and a wooden tower body with a Baroque spire. Inside survive ceiling paintings, a Baroque high altar, Rococo side altars and a pulpit. Also look for the font from around 1650, the organ and the Renaissance tombstone of the Prądzyński family above the crypt.

The church is at 3 Młyńska Street, in central Przechlewo. The parish publishes the current Mass schedule on its website; as this is an active church, arrange an interior visit around services and confirm access in advance. Allow 30–45 minutes. Nearby lakes and walking routes make good additions to the visit.
