St Anne Basilica in Lubartów

St Anne’s Basilica in Lubartów is one of the most important Baroque churches in the Lublin region. It was built in 1733–1738 to a design by Paweł Antoni Fontana, funded by Paweł Karol Sanguszko, and forms the town’s most interesting historic complex together with the palace and park.

Fontana’s Baroque church and marble portal

The church was built as a three-aisled basilica with a distinctive façade and two towers. The entrance is framed by black Dębnik marble with dolomite elements and a foundation cartouche. After the fire of 1792 the church was partly rebuilt, while its main body was preserved.

St Anne Samotrzecia and the organ

The high altar holds the venerated late-17th-century image of St Anne Samotrzecia, showing Anne with Mary and the Christ Child. The image was crowned in 2003; five years later the church became a minor basilica and a sanctuary of St Anne. The gallery preserves an organ from 1742, and a Baroque bell tower from 1748 stands by the church.

Practical information

The basilica is at 6 Słowackiego Street, close to the Sanguszko palace and park. Visits are possible when no Mass or service is taking place; check the current liturgical schedule before travelling. Allow 45–60 minutes for the church, bell tower and park. In season, also check for organ concerts and the parish’s virtual-tour offer.
