St Anne Church in Krynki

St Anne’s Church in Krynki is a Neo-Gothic church built in 1907–1912 to a design by Stefan Szyller. It replaced an older wooden church, and part of the Baroque furnishings from that earlier building survives inside.

Parish history and construction

The parish dates back to 1522, when King Sigismund I the Old founded the first wooden Church of St Anne. The present masonry building was erected in the early 20th century in the Vistula-Baltic Neo-Gothic style. Two slender towers, tall windows and brick elevations give it a distinctive silhouette in Krynki.

Stained glass and furnishings from the earlier church

The interior combines Neo-Gothic architecture with Baroque altars and an organ moved from the earlier wooden church. Look for the three oak altars, stained glass and the 15-stop organ. Beside the church stands a Neo-Baroque gate-belfry from 1882 with three bells.

The church is on Kościelna Street in central Krynki, not far from the Belarusian border. It is an active parish, so check the current service schedule and arrangements for a quiet interior visit before entering. Allow about 45–60 minutes for the church, gate-belfry and a walk through town. Combine the stop with the Krynka valley and the landscapes of Podlasie.
