Church of Peace in Świdnica

The Church of Peace of the Holy Trinity in Świdnica is Europe’s largest wooden Protestant church and part of the UNESCO entry “Churches of Peace in Jawor and Świdnica”. Built in 1656–1657 after the Thirty Years’ War, it uses a timber frame with clay-and-straw infill. Its exterior is restrained, while the interior opens into a large Baroque space.

Galleries, boxes and music

The strongest impression comes from the contrast between the modest body and the multi-level interior of galleries, boxes, paintings and organs. Notice the Biblical decoration and details showing how the church served its historic Lutheran community. It remains an important venue for concerts and musical events, including the Bach Festival.

The Peace Square

The church stands at 6 Peace Square, within a historic complex that also includes the bell tower, bell-ringer’s house, vicarage and former cemetery. The UNESCO entry protects not only the building but also the remarkable setting of the square. Allow 1–2 hours for the church and grounds; listening to the guide recording and viewing the interior takes about 40 minutes.

Hours and tickets

From April to October, visits run Monday to Saturday 9:00–18:00 and Sundays and public holidays 12:00–18:00. In November and March the hours are 9:00–16:30 and 12:00–16:30 on Sundays; from December to February they are 10:00–15:00 and 12:00–15:00. The contribution is PLN 18 for adults, PLN 15 for students, pensioners and adult groups, PLN 10 for children and young people, and PLN 45 for a family ticket.
