Grotto of St Rosalia in Hucisko

The Grotto of St Rosalia lies on the summit of Perzowa Hill (395 m above sea level) at Hucisko, within the Perzowa Góra nature reserve. It is a rock niche among red Triassic sandstones, with a small chapel dedicated to St Rosalia, patron of people affected by infectious diseases. The site combines nature, geology and local religious tradition and works best as part of a woodland walk.

Perzowa Góra reserve

Established in 1995, the reserve covers 33.08 hectares. It protects natural sandstone outcrops, boulders and near-natural woodland. The rock formation runs along the ridge; its central outcrop is cut by a niche up to about 3.5 m high. In spring and summer, look for woodland plants including wild garlic and Turk’s cap lily.

The chapel of St Rosalia

The cult of St Rosalia is associated with protection from epidemics and old local pilgrimages. Local tradition gives the chapel a long history, but these stories should not be treated as precise dating of the structure. It remains a place of prayer, so keep quiet, avoid unnecessary interior photography and expect access to differ during services.

Access and planning

Forest paths approach the grotto from Hucisko and Kuźniaki. The red Main Świętokrzyskie Trail passes through the rock formation, and a local walking path is also marked nearby. Follow reserve signs, do not climb the rocks and stay on designated routes. Check current trail conditions and Strawczyn parish information about services before travelling. The walk can be combined with other sites in the Oblęgorskie Range.
