Libek Hill in Jastarnia

Libek Hill, also called Lubek, is the highest dune on the Hel Spit. It is about 12.5 m above sea level and lies between Jastarnia and Kuźnica, in one of the most interesting natural sections of the Hel Peninsula. From the top, you can see both the open Baltic Sea and Puck Bay.

Views and the fishermen’s memorial

The dune carries a stone memorial, “In memory of those who did not return from the sea”, dedicated to local fishermen and sailors. Libek is not a high mountain or a developed viewpoint; its appeal comes from its position on the narrow spit, where both bodies of water are close to one another. The name is sometimes linked to a story about the ship Lübeck, said to have wrecked nearby; this is local tradition rather than a certain historical fact.

How to reach it

The clearest access starts in Kuźnica and follows the blue trail and nature path. The route is about 2.6 km, and the municipal description gives roughly 50 minutes to Libek; returning along the beach is suggested. You can also plan a walk from Jastarnia, but check a current map and beach conditions first. Both towns are served by train and bus.

Practical information

This is a free outdoor attraction that can be visited year-round. In high season, leave your car at a legal car park in Kuźnica rather than by the forest entrance. The dune is a fragile habitat: stay on marked routes, protect the vegetation and keep away from the steep shore edge. Summer mornings and evenings are usually quieter; rain and strong wind can make the approach less comfortable.
