Lakes
Mosina, Greater Poland
Glinianki are flooded former clay pits on the slopes of Osowa Góra in Mosina, in the Pożegowo district. Where clay was hauled to the brickworks for decades, there is now a quiet, green bathing spot with a sandy beach right on the edge of Wielkopolska National Park. It works well for a summer afternoon or a short forest walk.
For decades Mosina lived off its ceramics works. The pit lay many metres above the factory, almost at the top of Osowa Góra, so a gravity railway was built: wagons full of clay ran downhill and their own weight pulled the empty ones back up. After the pit and brickworks closed, the excavations filled with water. Locals swam here unofficially for years, and in 2013 the municipality opened the first safe bathing area.
The wooden tower, about 17 m high, opened in December 2011. In 2022 it was closed for safety reasons. An expert report found the structure affected by fungi and insects, and repairs were estimated at around PLN 380,000. The municipality decided to demolish the old tower and is looking for funding for a new one. Until further notice, do not plan to climb it, and respect the fenced-off sections by the slope.
A ski lift operated on the northern slope of Osowa Góra from 1970 to 1984. Nearby was the terminus of the now-disused railway line from Puszczykówko. In the 1950s researchers recorded insect species here that had never been described in Greater Poland before.
In the 2026 season lifeguards were on duty at Glinianki from 27 June to 31 August, 10:00–18:00. Outside these dates the bathing area is unsupervised. Access is via a side road off ul. Pożegowska – paved, shared by pedestrians, cyclists and cars, and signed as a residential zone – leading to the Glinianki car park. Allow 2–3 hours for the beach and a walk around the water. Outside summer it is more of a forest walk than a swimming trip.
