Gallery of Great Lodz Citizens in Łódź

The Gallery of Great Citizens of Łódź is a group of six outdoor monuments along Piotrkowska Street. This free route commemorates people and stories connected with the city’s cultural and industrial history. It is not an enclosed museum: the sculptures stand in public space among cafés, shops and historic buildings.

Six monuments on Piotrkowska

The gallery includes the Julian Tuwim Bench at 104 Piotrkowska, Rubinstein’s Piano at 78, Reymont’s Suitcase at 137, the Founders of Industrial Łódź table at 30/32, Jaracz’s Armchair at 152 and the Lamplighter Monument at 37. You can sit beside a poet, play the piano and see references to the city’s industrial past.

History and details

The Tuwim Bench was first, unveiled in 1999 in front of City Hall. The poet holds “Kwiaty polskie”, and a local legend says rubbing his nose brings good luck. Rubinstein’s Piano followed in 2000 near the townhouse where he spent his childhood. The remaining monuments appeared by 2007.

Planning the walk

The easiest route runs from Freedom Square towards Kościuszko Avenue, following the street numbers. Restaurants and cafés line the way, and the walk can include Piotrkowska’s palaces and courtyards. The monuments are outdoors, with no shared hours or admission fee. In rain, plan indoor breaks.
