Chopin Manor in Duszniki-Zdrój

The spa theatre in the Spa Park

Chopin Manor in Duszniki-Zdrój is a former spa meeting place, previously known as the Spa Theatre. The wooden building was erected in 1802–1805 to a design by the architect Geissler and is one of the oldest surviving structures in the town’s spa district. It stands at 8 Zdrojowa Street, among the greenery of the Spa Park, near the pump room and other resort buildings.

Chopin in Duszniki

Frédéric Chopin stayed in Duszniki in the summer of 1826, aged 16. At the manor he gave charity concerts for poor spa patients. The young composer’s stay and performances are commemorated by the building’s name and by concerts held here every year. It is one of the key Chopin heritage stops in Lower Silesia.

Festival and practical information

In August 1946, the first edition of the International Chopin Festival was held in the Spa Theatre, marking the 120th anniversary of the composer’s concerts. The festival has run continuously since 1946 and is recognised as the world’s oldest piano festival; its programme includes concerts and masterclasses. According to the municipal tourism service, the manor is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00 for a symbolic fee.
