Skalne Grzyby Rock Formations

In the central part of the Table Mountains, near Karłów, single rock tors with mushroom-like caps rise above the treetops. Skalne Grzyby (Rock Mushrooms) is one of the most distinctive clusters of outcrops in the Central Sudetes — individual formations regarded as natural curiosities.

Rocks with their own names

Many of the local mushrooms bear their own names: Adam and Ewa, Borowik, Głowa Psa, Prawdziwek or Wrota. The formations are built of sandstone and owe their present shape to centuries of weathering — hence both their cap-like silhouette and the name of the whole group.

How to get there

It is best to leave your car at the forest car park on Droga Stu Zakrętów (the Road of a Hundred Bends), which links Kudowa through Karłów with Radków — the surroundings of Radkowskie Skały make a good starting point. From there the red Main Sudetes Trail leads south, followed by the green trail with a viewpoint, the blue one and finally the yellow trail that brings you to the rocks themselves. Alternatively, you can walk longer along the red trail and switch to the yellow one at the second fork.

Around the Rock Mushrooms

The formations lie within the Table Mountains National Park, and the region's biggest attractions are close by: Szczeliniec Wielki (5.4 km), Błędne Skały (8.9 km), Kamieniec Palace (9.3 km) and the fortresses in Kłodzko (17.5 km) and Srebrna Góra (20.6 km). The area is accessible all year round — plan solid footwear and a supply of water, since a several-kilometre walk through the forest leads to the rocks.
