St Anne's Wooden Church, Lubliniec

The small wooden Church of St Anne has stood in Lubliniec since 1653, although it has occupied its present spot only since the early 21st century. Between 1999 and 2001 it was dismantled and reassembled, partly with its old beams, and shifted 4 metres from its original position. The interior kept its 17th- and 18th-century furnishings throughout.

History: a Cellary foundation

The church was funded by Andrzej Cellary, the then owner of Lubliniec, who had held the town and its castle since 1645. It was rebuilt or restored in 1754. The last and most radical intervention came in 1999–2001: the church was taken apart, rebuilt with new materials and some of the old beams, and then blessed again. The diocesan weekly "Gość Niedzielny" reports that after the reconstruction it was blessed by Bishop Jan Wieczorek in 2004. Today it is a chapel of ease of St Nicholas parish and part of the Wooden Architecture Route of the Silesian Voivodeship.

What to see

• Log construction – the church faces east, with a three-sided chancel and a rectangular sacristy.
• Shingle roof with a hexagonal ridge turret for the sanctus bell, topped by a lantern.
• Baroque furnishings from the 17th and 18th centuries.
• High altar painting – a 19th-century image of St Anne with an open book on her lap, teaching the Virgin Mary seated at her feet. The stone tablets of the Ten Commandments also appear in the picture.

Tripto tip

The church is in regular use and has no fixed visiting hours, so the easiest way to see the interior is around a service or by contacting St Nicholas parish beforehand (tel. +48 34 356 20 61). The main celebration is the feast of the patron saint at the end of July – in 2026 the main day was 25 July, with Masses from morning to afternoon. A quarter of an hour is enough to see the church from outside. It is a short walk from Lubliniec Castle, which is also linked to the Cellary family.
