St. Anne’s Wooden Church in Lubliniec

The wooden Church of St Anne in Lubliniec stands on St Anne Street, close to the market square and castle. Built in 1653 after a great town fire, it is now part of the Wooden Architecture Trail of the Silesian Voivodeship. This small active filial church is a worthwhile stop on a walk through central Lubliniec.

History of St Anne’s church

The founder was Andrzej Cellary, owner of the Lubliniec estate. The church stood in a suburb later known as St Anne’s Suburb. After falling into poor condition in the 20th century, it was moved and reconstructed in 1999–2001; the rebuilt church was consecrated in 2005. The present building combines historic elements with reconstruction.

Wooden architecture and interior

The church has a log structure, a single nave, an east-facing three-sided apse and a shingle roof. A small six-sided bell turret rises above the nave. The Baroque interior includes an 18th-century main altar, sculptures of the four evangelists, religious paintings and the Cellary coat of arms. The altar also holds a 17th-century painting of St Anne.

Visiting and planning a walk

This is a place of worship, so regular sightseeing hours are not confirmed. The regional tourism service lists 26 July or visits arranged by phone; check with St Nicholas’ parish before going inside. Contact: +48 34 356 20 61. There is no admission ticket. Combine the church with Lubliniec’s market square, old town and castle, and keep quiet during services.
