Trzebnica, 25 kilometres north of Wrocław, is the town of St Hedwig of Silesia. The main sight is the basilica with her sarcophagus and the tomb of Duke Henry the Bearded, next to a huge Baroque convent. On the edge of town begins the Beech Forest with an 18th-century Calvary, a forest church of 1886 and a Lourdes grotto, while the market square has an 1868 town hall with a regional museum. Trzebnica makes a good half-day trip from Wrocław for pilgrims, families and anyone who wants to combine historic sights with a walk under the beeches.
