Srebrna Góra Enduro Trails

Srebrna Góra Enduro Trails is a bike park on the slopes around Srebrna Góra Fortress – the land around the Prussian stronghold, and even some of its structures, has been adapted for downhill mountain-bike trails. You ride among 18th-century forts above a deep valley separating the Owl Mountains from the Bardo Mountains.

The terrain: mountain, fortress and pass

Srebrna Góra is a former mining town in the Stoszowice municipality, stretched along a steep valley at about 400 to 600 m above sea level. The highest point nearby is Góra Warowna (686 m). The fortress was built in 1765–1777 on two hills above the Srebrna Pass (586 m); it consists of six forts, and 4,000–4,500 workers took part in its construction. Big height differences and wooded slopes give enduro riders natural conditions.

History in the background

The fortress was meant to defend Silesia against Austria and was tested in battle only once: in 1807 Napoleonic troops besieged it but failed to take it. During the Second World War an Oflag for Polish officers operated in the Ostróg and Wysoka Skała forts; on the night of 5–6 May 1940 nine prisoners escaped. After your ride, look into the main fort – tens of thousands of tourists visit the fortress every year.

Enduro trails call for a full-face helmet, body armour and a well-maintained bike with good brakes. Before riding, check the current condition and waymarking of the trails on site – conditions on steep forest sections change after rain. Remember that hikers also walk around the fortress; slow down on shared sections. Srebrna Góra has accommodation and places to eat, so it is easy to stay for two days: one on the bike, the other exploring the forts.
