The National Stadium in Warsaw (Stadion Narodowy, known by its sponsor name PGE Narodowy) is Poland's largest stadium and one of the capital's most recognizable modern landmarks. Its red-and-silver "basket" rises from the Vistula's east bank, opposite the city center. The Polish national football team plays here, and the stadium also hosts huge concerts and fairs. On days without events, you can join a guided stadium tour or head up to the viewing point in the upper stands.
The stadium was built in 2008–2011 for UEFA Euro 2012, which Poland co-hosted with Ukraine. It sits in the bowl of the old 10th-Anniversary Stadium, a communist-era arena from the 1950s, and reuses its earth embankments. The Polish firm JSK Architekci designed it with the German practice gmp (Gerkan, Marg und Partner), and Schlaich Bergermann engineered the roof. The stadium opened with a concert on January 29, 2012, and on June 8, 2012, it hosted the opening match of Euro 2012, Poland vs. Greece.
Since July 2015 it has carried the sponsor name PGE Narodowy. In 2021 it was officially named after Kazimierz Górski, the coach who led Poland's golden era in the 1970s. In late 2020 part of the building served as a temporary COVID-19 hospital.
Tours run seven days a week on a fixed calendar, and they're canceled on days with major events. Popular options:
Every tour ticket also includes the viewing point. The operator warns that routes may change because of ongoing work on the pitch and stands. There's no cloakroom on the tour, and the only restrooms are at the reception.
Reduced tickets apply to under-18s, students under 26 and retirees, among others. Buy tickets online at wycieczki.pgenarodowy.pl or at the ticket desk. The Warsaw Pass is accepted. To book a foreign-language tour, email rezerwacje@pgenarodowy.pl or call +48 22 295 95 95 (weekdays 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.).
If you're a football fan, the dressing-room tour is a highlight of any trip to Warsaw. If not, the viewing point gives you the full sweep of the bowl and roof in a short visit. On match or concert days the atmosphere outside is part of the experience, but tours don't run.
The address is al. Ks. J. Poniatowskiego 1, about 12 km from Warsaw Chopin Airport. Take metro line M2 to Stadion Narodowy or a train to Warszawa Stadion. Tours start at the Main Reception above Gate 1 on Aleja Zieleniecka. The underground garage on levels -3 and -4 is paid, and there's also a lot by Warszawa Stadion station, with different rules on event days.
Walk across Poniatowski Bridge to the Powiśle district on the city-center bank, or explore the riverside boulevards and Skaryszewski Park on the Praga side.
