Warsaw University Library

The University of Warsaw Library Garden is one of Powiśle's most unusual free attractions. Green terraces climb onto the roof of the modern BUW building at 56/66 Dobra Street, while bridges and the viewing terrace look towards the Vistula, Świętokrzyski Bridge and the National Stadium.

The BUW rooftop garden

Opened in 2002, the garden has lower and upper sections connected by stairs, a stream and a cascade. Four colour-themed areas — gold, silver, carmine and green — change with the seasons. From the roof, you can also see the library's green facades and the distinctive copper structures that support the climbing plants.

Architecture and details

The library building is part of the attraction. On Dobra Street, its facade is covered with large panels carrying symbols of knowledge and writing systems, from mathematical equations to texts in different alphabets. Inside the building is Chashitsu Kaian, a traditional Japanese tea pavilion on level 2. The garden is self-guided; around 30–45 minutes is enough for a relaxed walk across the terraces.

Opening hours and tips

Entry is free. The garden opens daily except during special events: 1–30 April, 8:00–18:00; 1 May–30 September, 8:00–20:00; 1–31 October, 8:00–18:00; and 1 November–31 March, 8:00–15:00, with no roof access in winter. The entrance is on Dobra Street near Gęsta Street. Wheelchair users can reach the roof by the building's lift after contacting security.
