Royal Castle in Warsaw

The Royal Castle in Warsaw has played every role a residence can play: seat of the Mazovian dukes, main home of Poland's kings from the era of Sigismund III Vasa onward, the place where the Constitution of 3 May 1791 was adopted, and — after the collapse of the Warsaw Uprising — a wreck blown up by the Germans. Rebuilt in 1971–1984 largely with donations from ordinary Poles, it is now a museum inscribed on the UNESCO list together with the Old Town and the most emblematic starting point for exploring the capital.

Visits follow several routes. The Royal and Museum Routes (about 60–90 minutes) lead through the Grand Assembly Hall and the royal apartments, while the longest, the Castle Route, takes around two and a half hours. The collections include works by Rembrandt and Bernardo Bellotto, whose Warsaw vedute served as models for the post-war reconstruction of the city. On the Vistula side you will find the Arkady Kubickiego and the rebuilt Castle Gardens — Upper and Lower — with free entry and an esplanade open into the evening.

The routes are open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00–18:00 (last admission 17:00); the castle is closed on Mondays. A ticket for the Royal or Museum Route costs 60 zl (concessions 45 zl), the Golden Ticket for all exhibitions is 110 zl, and visitors aged 7–26 from EU countries pay just 1 zl. On Wednesdays selected routes are free, but the pool of same-day tickets at the box office is limited, so come early. Online tickets are sold at bilety.zamek-krolewski.pl.
