Pyzdry is a small town in Września County, set on the high right bank of the Warta River, about 50 kilometres north-west of Kalisz. First recorded in 1232, the former royal town was for centuries the seat of its own district. Its most valuable monument is the 14th-century Franciscan monastery complex, and the Church of the Nativity of Mary stands nearby. On and around the market square you will see an arcaded house and a historical mural, and on the river side the mosaic steps and the Warta mural, with views over the valley's floodplains. A Dutch windmill stands on the edge of town. Pyzdry is a good base for walks and bike rides along the Warta valley, popular with birdwatchers. Half a day covers the town. Come by car on regional road 442 from Września or Kalisz. Spring, when the floodplains are full of birds, and summer are the best times.
