Mikroskala Model Park in Konin

The Mikroskala Model Park in Konin is a hall full of miniature worlds: from Columbus's caravels and the sinking Titanic to the Moon landing, dinosaurs and Star Wars. Open since May 2013, it displays more than 50 models, some of which visitors start up themselves at the press of a button. Its creators stress that there is no other place like it in Poland.

What to see

The models are grouped by theme, and each comes with captions, presentations and an audio guide. The display covers several sections:

• World history – Christopher Columbus's fleet, the sinking of RMS Titanic, the Normandy landings, the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, the Berlin Wall.
• Polish history – local touches such as Konin's milestone and castle, plus the defence of Zbarazh, the September 1939 campaign and martial law.
• Technology – interactive railway layouts, space exploration, airships and Concorde.
• Nature – dinosaurs, a tornado and a tsunami.
• Film, books and cartoons – Noah's Ark, Star Wars, The War of the Worlds, Shrek, The Lion King and Frozen, plus a funfair model for the youngest.

Did you know?

Mikroskala has collected several awards: in 2014 a travel portal named it one of its top attractions, and in September 2019 it received a distinction in the Best Tourist Product of Greater Poland competition. A nice local touch is the model of Konin's milestone – the original stands in town, about 11 km from the park.

Tripto tips

The park is in the Gosławice district at ul. Leopolda Staffa 5, next to Primary School No. 10 – note that older guides give an outdated address. According to the park's website, individual visitors and families are admitted on Saturdays and Sundays 12:00–18:00 without booking, while organised groups come Monday to Friday 8:00–19:00 by appointment. A standard ticket costs PLN 25, reduced (pupils, students, seniors 60+) PLN 20, family PLN 20 per person (minimum 3), and children under 4 go free; holders of the Konin Resident Card get 20% off. Allow about 1.5 hours. Nearby you can visit the regional museum in Gosławice (about 1 km) and the basilica in Licheń (about 5 km).
