Lakes
Ślesin, Greater Poland
South of Ślesin stretches the long, narrow ribbon of Lake Mikorzyn (Jezioro Mikorzyńskie). It is the deepest of the Konin lakes and in summer one of the warmest: water from the nearby power stations keeps the temperature often around 25 °C. Ślesin, Mikorzyn, Wąsosze and Półwiosek Stary lie on its shores.
The lake fills a glacial trough, part of the so-called Gopło trough. To the north it joins Lake Ślesin, to the south Lake Pątnów, and since the 1950s it has been part of the 32-km Ślesin Canal between the Warta and Lake Gopło. In the south-east, a 1,750-metre embankment with a concrete wall marks the end of the Konin power stations' discharge canal.
The lake bed drops steeply, forming five distinct deeps. It is a bream-type lake, home to bream, zander, perch, tench and eel among others.
The lake is best seen from the water – by kayak, rowing boat or sailing boat from the Ślesin marina, through the canal from Lake Ślesin. There are holiday centres along the shore. The water is warmest in July and August. Allow 1–2 hours for a short trip, or half a day by the water.
