Przelewice Dendrological Garden

The Dendrological Garden in Przelewice is one of the biggest arboretums in West Pomerania: a landscape park around a palace with roughly 1,200 species of trees, shrubs and perennials, ponds, romantic brick ruins and a Japanese corner. It sits in the village of Przelewice near the town of Pyrzyce, an easy day trip from Szczecin. It is especially lovely in autumn, when maples and larches turn red and gold, but it works in any season.

Where it is

Przelewice (psheh-leh-VEE-tseh) lies about 50 km as the crow flies southeast of Szczecin, the nearest big city. There is no train to the door, so most visitors drive. Prices are in zloty (PLN). The garden's website is in Polish, so book by phone or email if you need help.

A short history

A landscape park around the palace was laid out in the early 19th century (the garden's own site gives 1805 for the park and about 1814 for the finished palace). The dendrological garden itself was founded in 1933 by the industrialist Conrad von Borsig, who gathered trees from around the world. The whole estate covers about 45 ha, of which around 30 ha are open to visitors together with the palace. The park has been a listed monument since 1976, and since April 2021 it has been run by the West Pomeranian regional government as Ogrody Przelewice (Przelewice Gardens). Its symbol is the dove tree, whose flower appears on the municipal coat of arms.

Ask at the ticket office about the Tourist Stamp. The website has an events calendar with concerts, workshops and painting meetings.

How long to allow

For a relaxed walk through the main areas plan 2-3 hours, or half a day with a break at the palace. Guided tours last up to 90 minutes and cost 280 PLN per group (booking by phone); they can be extended to the orangery and the farm buildings. House rules ban animals (except guide dogs), cycling, scooters, in-line skates and smoking, and visitors must leave during storms and strong wind.

Address: Przelewice 17, 74-210 Przelewice. Driving is easiest. The site does not give parking details, so ask the palace reception (+48 799 045 827). Is it worth visiting? Yes, if you like gardens and a quiet, almost empty park outside high summer.
