Museums
Poznań, Greater Poland
The Armored Warfare Museum in Poznań (Muzeum Broni Pancernej, roughly "MOO-zeh-oom BRO-nee pan-TSER-nay") holds one of Poland's largest collections of tanks and military vehicles, displayed in modern halls in the city's Wola district. A branch of the Polish Army Museum, it has around 230 exhibits, from Soviet T-34s to rare German assault guns. For anyone interested in World War II or the Cold War, it is one of the top things to do in Poznań.
The collection began in 1963–1964 as a teaching aid for Polish army armor training, later serving as a regimental "hall of traditions." It became an official branch of the Polish Army Museum on April 1, 2015, and moved to its current purpose-built site on October 4, 2019. Note that it is separate from the museums at Poznań's Citadel park, so do not head there by mistake.
The museum displays about 230 exhibits, including roughly 100 vehicles, in four halls of around 700 square meters each plus a covered outdoor area of about 3,000 square meters. Highlights include:
If you enjoy military history or engineering, absolutely. Allow about 2 hours. A free audio guide app is available in English and Polish, so bring headphones. Start in the halls, then move outside to the heavier equipment. Pets are only allowed in the covered outdoor area, and kids should be reminded that the vehicles are exhibits, not climbing frames.
As of October 2026, according to the museum website (prices in Polish zloty):
The museum is in Wola, in western Poznań, close to Poznań–Ławica Airport, which makes it easy to fit in on an arrival or departure day. There is free parking for 50 cars and 6 coaches. By public transport, take a bus (lines 156 or 186, among others) to the Tatrzańska stop and walk from there. Direct trains link Poznań with Berlin and Warsaw. Combine your visit with the Old Market Square and the Citadel's Armaments Museum.
