JuraPark Krasiejów

JuraPark Krasiejów is a palaeontological museum combined with an amusement park, built on an active excavation site in the village of Krasiejów in the municipality of Ozimek, Opole Voivodeship. It is one of the most important palaeontological sites in Europe.

Excavations that reshaped the Triassic

At the turn of the 21st century, during exploitation of a local clay pit, rich fossils from about 230 million years ago were discovered here. The best-known find is Silesaurus opolensis, described by palaeontologist Jerzy Dzik — a species known almost exclusively from this location. Fossil-bearing bone layers lie exposed here in the raw, which makes a visit unique: tourists walk across a real dig site.

Museum and amusement park

Beyond the museum and excavation areas, visitors can follow a trail of prehistoric animal replicas at natural scale, view exhibitions and enjoy children's attractions. In season, palaeontology workshops are held where participants search for fossils themselves.

Practical information

Krasiejów lies about 20 km east of Opole, on the Opole–Częstochowa railway line (a local stop serves the village). Spring or autumn are the best times to visit on a quieter day. Part of the trail runs along open paths, so bring headwear.
