Lakes
Topólka, Kuyavian-Pomeranian
Lake Głuszyńskie is almost ten kilometres long and 36.5 metres deep at its deepest point, deeper than the nearby and much better known Lake Gopło. It lies in the Kuyavian Lake District near Radziejów, and its shores are shared by three municipalities: Topólka, Bytoń and Piotrków Kujawski.
It is a long glacial ribbon lake running from north to south, with the Zgłowiączka river flowing through it. It covers 608.5 hectares, with an average depth of 9.2 m and a maximum of 36.5 m. The lake is 9,850 m long, up to 2,300 m wide and has three large bays, which give it a shoreline of 28.8 km.
Since 16 June 1983 the lake has been part of a protected landscape zone and a noise protection zone. In the 1990s holiday plots sprang up around it, mainly in the municipality of Topólka.
This is a lake for people who want peace and quiet rather than a promenade and a busy beach. Much of the shore is taken up by private plots and reed beds, so plan to reach the water through the villages on its banks. A few hours are enough for a walk and some birdwatching, and you can easily combine the trip with Kruszwica and Lake Gopło.
