Giżycko, Warmian-Masurian
Five minutes' walk from Giżycko station is the town's largest yacht and passenger harbour. Ekomarina sits on the northern shore of Lake Niegocin, which covers more than 2,600 ha and is almost 40 metres deep, and has berths for 238 vessels. Even without a boat it is worth coming for the promenade and breakwater, especially at sunset over the lake.
The marina was built under the EU-funded "Eco-marinas of the Great Masurian Lakes" programme, which created 12 such harbours in Masuria. The Giżycko marina opened in 2011 and immediately earned a reputation as the largest and most modern passenger harbour in the region. Since 2022 the operator has been expanding its facilities, including a new building intended to extend the sailing season.
According to the operator, the marina has a building of about 2,500 m², a 71-metre promenade and parking for 168 cars. There is a harbour master's office, and the marina runs sailing courses for children, teenagers and people with disabilities.
A walk around the marina takes 30–60 minutes. If you add the swing bridge and the fortress, set aside half a day.
If you are arriving by water, check the notices of the Giżycko County Roads Authority before setting off. In 2026 the Łuczański Canal is closed to navigation because of bridge construction; only authorised passenger ships may pass, and all vessels only on the weekends of 1–3 May and 4–7 June. From November to March the swing bridge stays closed to boats. For walkers, the best time is a summer evening as the sun sets over Lake Niegocin.
