The Co-Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption at 5 Mariacka Street is a Gothic hall church in the heart of Kołobrzeg’s old town. Its present form was built in stages: the hall in 1300–1321 and the chancel in 1322–1331. The five-aisled interior, massive tower block and brick architecture show the scale of medieval Kołobrzeg. It remains an active place of worship, so visitors should be quiet and respectful.

What to see inside

Highlights include a seven-branched candelabrum from 1327, an oak crucifix from around 1330, a baptismal font from 1355, polychrome decoration, epitaphs, altars and choir stalls. Also look up at the distinctive leaning pillars and high vaults.

Tower, museum and panorama

The tower block houses the Diocesan Museum, while a higher level has a viewing terrace overlooking Kołobrzeg, the Parsęta and the surrounding area. A lift takes visitors up, but stairs lead to the terrace. The tower is a separate part of the visit with its own hours and ticket; do not assume the terrace is included in free church entry.

Hours and visiting rules

The parish currently lists church visiting hours as 9:00–16:30 on weekdays, with a Friday break from 14:30 to 15:45, and 14:00–15:30 on Sundays. Do not visit during services or adoration; the official page also asks visitors not to take photographs or film. The city tourist service lists the tower terrace at PLN 10 standard and PLN 8 school ticket, but tower hours can change, so confirm them before travelling.
