Ustronie Morskie, West Pomeranian
The Ustronie Morskie promenade and beach (say oo-STRO-nyeh MOR-skyeh) are the heart of a laid-back Baltic resort about 10–12 km (6–7 miles) east of Kołobrzeg, on Poland's northwest coast. A wide sandy beach lined with wooden groynes, a seafront walkway with cafés, and the quieter neighboring village of Sianożęty make this an easy, relaxed alternative to the busier beaches of Kołobrzeg – in summer for swimming, the rest of the year for long walks by the sea.
Ustronie Morskie sits in West Pomerania, between Kołobrzeg and Koszalin. The nearest airport is Szczecin-Goleniów, and the S6 expressway links the area with Szczecin to the west and Koszalin toward Gdańsk to the east. Options:
Until 1945 the village was called Henkenhagen and belonged to Germany. It was a farming and fishing village until the Koszalin–Kołobrzeg railroad opened in 1899, bringing visitors from Szczecin (Stettin) and Berlin. Guest numbers rose from 360 in 1899 to around 3,000 just before World War I, and in the 1920s Henkenhagen was one of the better-known German seaside resorts. After World War II the area became part of Poland, the German population was expelled, and the village was renamed – first Ustronie Nadmorskie, then Ustronie Morskie. Today about 2,400 people live here year-round.
The walkway is simply called ulica Promenada (Promenade Street) and runs parallel to the shore, with numbered beach entrances. Highlights:
Parts of the coast here are a low, actively eroding cliff – stay on the marked paths and beach entrances.
If you want a sandy Baltic beach without the crowds of a big town, yes. The beach and promenade are free and open year-round (as of October 2026). Plan about an hour for a walk, or half a day with time on the sand.
Within a short drive or bike ride you'll find the ancient Bolesław and Warcisław oaks near Bagicz, a 14th-century village church in Rusowo, and the tall red-brick Gąski Lighthouse to the east.
